2b. Enhancing Safety Prior to Admission: Assessment and Education of Patient and Family (TRT 19:11)

A critical component of epilepsy care involves identifying and educating patients and their families of potential risks and safety practices. Seizures and their consequences, as well as procedures and treatments conducted at epilepsy monitoring units, may affect patient safety, thus professionals in epilepsy care should be able to assess and anticipate safety risks and tailor planned treatments to prevent avoidable harm. Preparation of patients and their families prior to admission is critical to assess their readiness, expectations, and ability to manage procedures and safety plans.
